(WSJ) A minivan drove into a farmers market on the outskirts of Beijing on
Wednesday, killing at least four people and injuring many others, police
said.
Police, in a short statement, gave no explanation or
motive for why the van veered into the market at 3 p.m. local time in
Machikou town, north of Beijing.
The driver of the van and “other
relevant people” were taken into custody, said the statement, posted on
an official Beijing police social media account.
Police
and firefighters were dispatched to the scene, and the injured had been
taken to the hospital for treatment, the statement said.
Police were continuing to work at the scene, according to the statement.
